FAQ: BIG TASKS

Mission - To maximize the healthcare system to provide the highest healthcare value at the fairest cost to the most people

Healthcare costs continue to dramatically rise at a much higher rate than inflation. As employers increasingly move towards providing Wal-Mart-style health coverage by shifting health care costs to employees, employees struggle to pay higher premiums, deductibles and co-payments. In conjunction, some 47 million Americans have no health insurance. These trends led to passage of the 2010 Healthcare Reform Bill.

This major healthcare reform will have massive impact on the US healthcare system over the next 10 years. The initial reform will not solve all the problems that exist within the healthcare system. We still face high costs, inefficient delivery systems, lack of preventive care, healthcare disparities, shortages of critical healthcare workers, and a host of organization issues within our complex healthcare system. New problems will arise as we incorporate millions of more people into the insured ranks.

The medical community needs to come together as a group in order to fix the underlying flaws in the American healthcare system. Through a collaborate effort we can focus on various Big Tasks to achieve the primary healthcare goals of access, efficiency, and quality.

  • Developing quality systems for exchanging information
  • Providing incentives that encourage cost efficiency
  • Working with insurance markets to improve functionality
  • Leveraging information technology to improve care and decrease costs
  • Understanding the ramifications of new laws and regulations
  • Designing systems and incentive programs to encourage prevention and early diagnosis
  • Identifying the highest valued programs that will enable Americans to adopt healthier lifestyles

By collaborating together and developing the most effective Big Task strategies, we can achieve great results for our healthcare organizations and the US healthcare system.

"I wish more people in the general public could see this quite frankly, because it’s a great example of citizenship it its broadest form."
